What Fireflies does well
Fireflies has a mature meeting bot, a Chrome extension for recording without the bot, transcription in more than 100 languages and a wide range of integrations. It states that customer data is never used for AI training, and lists GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance.
Why teams look for an alternative
The reasons that come up most:
- Data location: Fireflies' security FAQ says data is stored and processed in US cloud infrastructure by default. Its Private Storage option on Enterprise can keep data in the EU, but processing still happens in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Mixed-language meetings: Fireflies' help centre labels transcribing several languages in one meeting as a beta mode.
- Beyond meetings: uploaded recordings, interviews and phone calls, and analysis across many conversations at once, are where a meeting assistant stops and a conversation workspace starts.
Where Klang is different
Klang is built in Sweden for European languages. It transcribes English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and more, and when the language is set to Automatic it handles meetings where people switch between two of them, transcribing each part in the language actually spoken.
All data is processed and stored in the EU, encrypted at rest with workspace-specific keys and never used to train AI, and Klang is ISO 27001:2022 certified. Organisations with stricter requirements can run Klang single-tenant with their own encryption keys, or on-premise.
More than a meeting bot
Klang records meetings, but it also transcribes audio and video files, records phone calls and in-person interviews with the mobile app, and lets you analyse many conversations together. A scheduled analysis can, for example, summarise every customer meeting each Friday and save the report to a folder.
