The honest comparison
A Wispr Flow alternative that also records your meetings
Wispr Flow is a popular dictation app. Klang dictates too, and records your meetings in the same app, with your data processed and stored in Europe. Here is how the two compare.
Hold a key and talk: text appears in any Mac app
Record Meet, Zoom and Teams without a bot in the call
Processed and stored in the EU, never used to train AI
Switching takes a few minutes

Wispr Flow vs Klang, in detail
Both tools let you talk instead of type and both now handle meetings. They differ on platforms, on where your voice is processed, and on how much of your work they cover. The facts about Wispr Flow below are from its own pricing, privacy and trust pages, read on 20 October 2026.
What Wispr Flow does well
Wispr Flow is a mature dictation tool. It runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, supports more than 100 languages, and has a dictionary, snippets and AI commands for rewriting text. Its free plan includes 2,000 words a week on desktop. Wispr states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, and signs a HIPAA business associate agreement for dictation. It also offers a Notetaker for meetings on Mac and Windows.
Why people look for an alternative
The reasons that come up most:
- Cloud processing in the US: Wispr says transcription always happens in the cloud, and every subprocessor on its trust centre, from AWS to OpenAI and Anthropic, is listed as US-based. For European organisations that can mean extra transfer assessments.
- Model training is on unless you turn it off: Wispr may use audio, transcripts and edits to improve its models when the setting is on. It is off and locked only on Growth and Enterprise plans.
- Two products for two jobs: dictation and the Notetaker are separate parts of Wispr, and accepting a HIPAA agreement turns the Notetaker off.
- A word limit on the free plan: 2,000 words a week on desktop.
Where Klang is different
Klang processes and stores data in the EU, encrypts it at rest with keys specific to your workspace, never uses it to train AI, and is ISO 27001:2022 certified. Organisations with stricter requirements can run Klang single-tenant with their own encryption keys, or on-premise.
Dictation is one part of Klang, not the whole product. The same account records meetings from your Mac with no bot, records calls and in-person meetings with the mobile app, transcribes uploaded audio and video, and lets you ask questions across all of it.
Wispr Flow privacy vs Klang: where your voice goes
Every word you dictate is audio of your voice, often about customers, colleagues or patients. So it matters where it is sent. Wispr says transcription always happens in the cloud, lists all of its subprocessors as US-based, and may use your audio, transcripts and edits to improve its models unless you turn that setting off.
Klang transcribes your dictation in the EU, and the cleanup that removes filler words and adds punctuation runs on Klang's servers in the EU too. Nothing you dictate or record is used to train AI, on any plan, and there is no setting to remember to switch off.
A free Wispr Flow alternative
Wispr's free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on desktop. Klang has a free plan with no time limit: download Klang for Mac, sign in with a free account and dictate, with no weekly word cap. Meeting recording, transcription, summaries and chat are part of the same free plan.
Where Wispr Flow is still the better fit
Klang for Mac is in beta and runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later. There is no Klang dictation on Windows, iPhone or Android yet. If you dictate across those devices, or you rely on Wispr's dictionary and AI commands every day, Wispr Flow is the safer choice today.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Wispr Flow alternative for Mac?
If you want dictation and meeting recording in one app, with your data processed in the EU, Klang is built for that. If you dictate on Windows or your phone as well, or need the widest language support, Wispr Flow remains a strong choice.
Is there a free Wispr Flow alternative?
Yes. Klang has a free plan with no time limit, and dictation in Klang for Mac has no weekly word limit. Wispr Flow's free plan includes 2,000 words a week on desktop.
Is Wispr Flow private?
Wispr encrypts data in transit and at rest and holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. Its transcription runs in the cloud with subprocessors listed in the US, and model training on your data is on unless you turn it off or are on a Growth or Enterprise plan. Klang processes dictation in the EU and never trains AI on your data.
Does Klang dictation work in any app?
Yes. Hold the key you chose, talk and let go, and Klang types the text where your cursor is: email, chat, notes or documents. It removes filler words and adds punctuation. Snippets type out text you use often when you say their name.
Can I use Klang dictation on Windows or my phone?
Not yet. Klang for Mac is in beta for Macs with Apple silicon. The Klang mobile app records calls and meetings, but it does not dictate into other apps.
Where is my dictation processed?
In the EU, both the transcription and the cleanup. Data is encrypted at rest with workspace-specific keys and never used to train AI. Klang is ISO 27001:2022 certified and signs a data processing agreement.
Can I try it before switching?
Yes. Create a Klang account, download the Mac app and use it next to Wispr Flow for a week. Dictate the same kind of text in both and see which you would rather keep.
Try it on your own words.
Download Klang for Mac, pick a key and dictate your next email. Then let it record your next meeting.
