Interview with Andreas: User-friendliness, Editing Tools & Keyboard Shortcuts

Today we talk to Andreas Argelius, one of our co-founders and developer behind Klang.ai. Andreas has been leading the development of our editing tool and built many of the features that save time when transcribing.

Can you tell us about the biggest challenge you encountered when developing the editing tool?

Absolutely. When we started developing the editing tool, we faced a challenge. On one hand, we needed to create something that was intuitive enough for beginners to quickly grasp, like a regular word processor. But at the same time, it was important that the tool contained powerful, advanced features for professional users. Finding a balance was difficult. We didn't want to sacrifice user-friendliness for power, or vice versa. We want the tool to be something you're familiar with. But at the same time, we want you to be able to work efficiently. For example, you can edit who is speaking in a certain transcription very easily. So it was a little balancing act between simplicity and power that I thought was a big challenge.

How does the new version of the tool differ from the previous one?

The original version of our editing tool was more focused on subtitles for video content, which meant a certain clumsiness when it came to handling large amounts of text, such as when transcribing interviews. It didn't feel smooth or efficient. With the new version, we have focused on making the tool more condensed and easy to overview. We have improved navigation and made text processing faster and more intuitive. It's now possible to do complex editing tasks with fewer clicks and less frustration, which is a big improvement from the previous version.

What kind of feedback have you received from users about the new version?

The response has been very positive, especially from those who regularly work with long texts. We have heard that the new version saves enormous amounts of time compared to the previous version. It's very exciting, a sign that what we built actually became better.

Finally, what are your best tips for efficiently using the new editing tool?

Something I think not everyone knows is that we have made Klang.ai work much like a regular word processor. And that also means we have added keyboard shortcuts for many of the functions in the editor. For example, there are keyboard shortcuts for undoing, just like when using Microsoft Word. So if you make a mistake, you can undo and go back.

We also have functions for searching and replacing words. If you want to replace a word in the entire transcription, say it's a name that has been consistently wrong or that you want to change the spelling of throughout the transcription, then we have a function and keyboard shortcuts to do that. We will also continue to add more keyboard shortcuts to make it more efficient for those who use the tool a lot.
